The sixth season of VSCA SportsCar Championship racing will kick off on January 9th, 2027 at Daytona International Speedway with the non-points qualifier race, The Roar Before The 24. This 2-hour-40-minute race will set the grid for the sixth annual 24 Hours of Daytona, which takes place the weekend after on January 13th.
The 2027 season will feature a total of twelve races, with ten championship rounds for each class.
A five-week spring break in March and April and a five-week in June and July will give teams and drivers some much needed rest to recuperate and stay fresh for the full duration of the season that will span nine calendar months total and that concludes with the sixth annual VSCA Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on September 18th, 2027.
"Working out a schedule every year is never easy. It has been the work of several weeks for us to consider all aspects and moving parts that play a role in determining the dates and tracks and the order in which the events take place.", said VSCA co-founder Benjamin Fischer.
"For 2027 one of our priorities was to align the order of races more with the real-life counterpart of our series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This meant that Long Beach is moving from February to April and VIR is moving to August. And for the same reason, Laguna Seca moved from March to May."
"March is always a difficult part of the schedule to get right, with iRacing Week 13, IMSA's 12 Hours of Sebring and the iRacing 12 Hours of Sebring the week after, all of which we wanted to make sure we do not clash with. So that's why we felt confident that keeping our 12 Hours of Sebring at the early March slot will work best for our teams and competitors."
"In the interest to giving our teams and competitors a summer break again in 2027, we have decided to run CTMP in May, instead of aligning that race with IMSA's July date. This way, everybody gets to enjoy five weeks off during the hottest days of summer.", Fischer explained.
The big news, of course, has to be, the addition of Mexico City to the schedule. Mexico City ( Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez) will make its debut on the VSCA SportsCar Championship calendar, as the National Historic layout of the track will host the first-ever VSCA race south of the U.S. border on February 6th.
"With the Detroit street course not being available on iRacing and no sign of its release pending before next year, this always means we're looking at a replacement track for this one race every year.", Fischer added.
"Obviously Homestead-Miami has been great for us, with some incredible racing that we've seen in 2024 and again in 2026, albeit in extremely challenging conditions this year, with the downpour and thunderstorms."
"But we want to use this one race per year to give the teams and competitors something different, to keep things fresh and interesting. And as VSCA is aiming to emulate IMSA, our focus is always going to be on North American tracks, and tracks where the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the predecessor series such as the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series used to race in the past."
"And since Grand Am raced at Mexico City from 2005-2008, and with Mexico City being one of the newer amazing tracks on iRacing, we felt this was a great fit. The National Historic layout, we believe, is most optimal for a multi-class race that features four classes from GTP Prototypes, LMP2s to GT3s. We are hopeful this will be a great race that our teams and competitors and fans will enjoy.", said Fischer.
All dates are tentative and subject to change, upon the release of iRacing's 2027 Special Events calendar later this year.
Series regulations and entry fees have not yet been announced by VSCA and are expected to be published later this year. VSCA has however confirmed that entry registration for the 2027 season will once again open in three stages. Eligible 2026 season entries returning to the same class for 2027 will be able to register on November 14th 1600 GMT. Eligible 2026 season entries changing car numbers and/or to a different class for 2027 will be able to register on November 18th 1600 GMT. Public registration for all new entries, including new teams will open on November 21st 1600 GMT.
