New to VSCA? This guide covers what VSCA is, how membership/team/entry registration works, and the current registration windows for each series. If you're completely new and don't yet have a VSCA membership, start with "What is VSCA?" below, then follow the cascade: become a Member, then join or register a Team, then (if you're a Team Manager/Assistant Manager) register an Entry once that series' registration window opens.
What is VSCA?
The Virtual Sports Car Association (VSCA) is a sim racing league built around the iRacing simulation platform. VSCA was established in 2021 to provide realistic, well-organized club-level competition for drivers, teams, and crews who want clean, competitive racing in a respectful community, both on and off track. Read more about VSCA.
New to sim racing or iRacing? Sim racing uses realistic driving simulation software and hardware (steering wheels, pedals) to replicate real motorsport competition. iRacing is the simulation platform VSCA races on — an active iRacing subscription and account is required for every VSCA membership.
The VSCA Philosophy
Designed to Replicate Real-World Racing
VSCA is designed to replicate IMSA and its racing series as closely as reasonably possible, while also drawing inspiration from IMSA's predecessors — the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series. In practice, this means:
- All VSCA series race exclusively at North American circuits
- VSCA uses incident-based Full-Course Yellows (Safety Car), not Code 60 or Virtual Safety Car procedures
- VSCA does not use Formula 1-style blue-flag rules that require a slower car to yield immediately
Realism First, Not an eSports Approach
This realism-first philosophy — rather than an eSports-oriented one — shapes the structure, regulations, and Race Control procedures of every VSCA series. In practice, this means:
- VSCA prohibits unrealistic eSports-style exploits — such as abusing iRacing's track limits, driving through multiple pit stalls, towing without authorization under green, or towing at the start/finish line at the end of a race
- VSCA enforces stricter clean-racing standards than many other sim racing leagues, to compensate for the absence of the physical danger and financial consequences that come with real-world car damage
VSCA Driver Rating System
VSCA is built for the amateur, average-rated sim racer — not for higher-rated or pro-level drivers and teams. Plenty of other sim racing leagues exist with no maximum iRating cap at all, tailored specifically to higher-rated drivers and teams — VSCA intentionally isn't one of them.
To join as a Driver, your Sports Car iRating must fall between 1500 and 4250 when you register and on the day of your first VSCA event.
From there, VSCA places you into its own Driver Category (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum) based on your actual performance in VSCA races — once you have an official Category, your iRating no longer matters, unless you go 7+ months without a VSCA event, at which point your Category resets and the iRating check applies again.
A prospective Driver currently under 4250 who has previously held a higher iRating elsewhere in their iRacing career may still be considered to have moved past the level of competition VSCA offers, and the Organizers reserve the right to decline that registration on that basis.
Team Managers/Assistant Managers, Crew Chiefs, Spotters, and Volunteers are fully exempt from this iRating requirement, so long as they do not compete as a Driver in VSCA.
How VSCA Works: Member → Team → Entry
VSCA has three separate, cascading registration steps. Each one has its own timing rules — understanding the order below is the number one item that clears up most confusion about "when can I register":
Member — any registered and VSCA approved Free Agent, Competitor (Driver, Spotter, or Crew Chief), or Team Manager.
Team — the managing entity (organization) entering one or more Entries into a VSCA series. Not to be confused with "iRacing Team."
Entry — one (1) car entered by a Team to compete in a race or championship.
There is no closed season for membership. Apply whenever you're ready and after you checked if VSCA is right for you (see above, section "What is VSCA?") — don't wait for a series to open registration.
Individuals who are interested in registering for a VSCA membership may go to https://www.vscaracing.com/register to apply. Membership Operations usually takes 1-2 days to review a new member registration. Being a member of the VSCA Discord server does not automatically make you a VSCA member.
Must first be an approved member of VSCA to join or register a team. Registering a team requires being at least 21 years old, or reach the age of 21 at some point during the current VSCA season 2027 (all series). Joining an existing Team as a driver, spotter, or crew chief has no age minimum beyond standard Membership. Joining as a non-driving member exempts you from the iRating requirements.
Approved VSCA members can join a team here (via the Team Directory), or, if they meet the minimum age requirement for team managers, register a team here.
Only by the Team Manager (or Assistant Manager) of an approved Team, only for a specific series, and only once that series' registration is open for the season — see the eligibility windows below for each series.
Approved team managers can register an entry for any of the series in VSCA here.
Roles & Functions in VSCA
VSCA is built through strong roots in the community and consists of a wide range of people who follow the league, actively participate in it or may also actively contribute as part of the staff to keeping VSCA running year to year. Below you see the various roles and functions within VSCA and what they mean.
Individuals who are on the VSCA Discord Server, but who have not yet registered for a VSCA membership.
An approved Member who is not currently signed to a Team in the VSCA Paddock.
Any person taking part in a VSCA Event: Driver, Spotter or Crew Chief.
The person responsible for overseeing and running a Team within VSCA, including registering Entries. A Team Owner does not need to be a VSCA Member, but if they are, they must serve as the Team Manager.
A Member designated by a Team Manager to act on their behalf.
League leadership who oversees administrative and organizational side of VSCA as a whole. The Organizers create and maintain VSCA Sporting Code, Series Regulations, Privacy Policy, Driver Rating System and License Penalty Points System and review personal conduct violations.
Oversee the entry registrations, grid updates, results, standings, race briefings, driver meetings and race-day activities of the SportsCar Championship.
Oversee the entry registrations, grid updates, results, standings, race briefings, driver meetings and race-day activities of the Challenger Series.
The senior Race Directors and senior Race Stewards, who oversee both the Race Directors and Race Stewards together and bring forth any issues to the Series Directors and/or Organizers.
Work closely with the Series Directors and handle the driver meetings and the tech inspection during warmup. During the race, Race Directors oversee everything, from race start procedures, voice chat and text chat, to full-course yellows and issuing the penalties that have been handed out by the Race Stewards.
Work closely with the Series Directors and Race Directors. Race Stewards review incidents that are submitted by teams and drivers or by the Race Directors, make rulings in line with the VSCA Sporting Code and series regulations, and finalize those rulings to be issued to the penalized teams and/or members through the Race Directors, in-race or post-race as applicable.
Staff who assist Race Stewards with reporting incidents that were not reported by Teams/Drivers.
Write the journalistic news articles on VSCAracing.com, create content on Discord and the social media channels of VSCA, and create graphic designs for VSCA such as event logos and class logos.
Create the VSCA Car Templates for all cars that are part of the various series in VSCA, which Team Managers may download to design their cars. They also review the car designs, car spec maps, team suits and driver helmets uploaded by Team Managers and Competitors.
The team behind VSCA TV, VSCA's new in-house broadcasting service launching in 2027: Broadcast Commentators (the commentators of VSCA TV) and Broadcast Producers (the producers of VSCA TV).
A team of web developers and web designers who keep VSCAracing.com, the VSCA Paddock, Live Timing & Scoring and the Race Control website up and running, and make continuous improvements to all of them.
Staff who review new membership applications, handle reinstatements of inactive or banned members and teams, and handle any and all membership related issues, including member and team profiles and accounts.
Oversee the building of relationships with new partners and sponsors, and manage the relationships with existing partners and sponsors, taking care that they stay satisfied and up-to-date with the series. They also reach out to potential new partners and sponsors and provide key performance metrics and relevant information to those who may be interested.
Sim racers who assist with or handle the building of Balance of Performances for VSCA events.
A committee of SportsCar Championship Team Managers who bring forth issues and inquiries from the members.
A committee of Challenger Series Team Managers who bring forth issues and inquiries from the members.
Joining the VSCA Discord
The VSCA Discord Server is required for every Member and is VSCA's primary communication hub — grid updates and team recruiting all happen there. Leaving the Discord server at any time immediately ends your VSCA membership, so you must keep an active membership of it at all times.
The server is used primarily for grid updates in #grid-updates, off-topic discussion in #public-discussion, and discussion amongst series competitors in #discussion. Team Managers also have a designated channel, #team-managers.
Text messaging and all voice channels are disabled for all members after the drivers meeting of a series race, until 24 hours after the checkered flag. Drivers meetings take place in the #drivers-meeting voice channel, which is limited to 100 users.
To invite friends or team-mates, share this invite link: https://discord.gg/QHB2CNueZQ
When you join, use your iRacing name (excluding any numerals) as your Discord display name — that's how Organizers and other Members will recognize you. If you don't yet have an iRacing account, use your full real name instead until you do.
Once Your Entry Is Registered
Every Driver, Crew Chief, and Spotter on the Entry must get licensed for that season via the VSCA Paddock (menu "Get/Check License" under the series) before competing — this means reading & accepting the Sporting Code and that season's Series Regulations, joining the series' iRacing league, and not currently serving a suspension.
Once licensed, the Team Manager/Assistant Manager declares the drivers lineup for each Entry, for each race, via the Paddock — the declaration window opens one month before the race and closes at that race's Entry Deadline.
The full status pipeline an Entry goes through — approval, car design, payment, grid vs. Reserve List placement, and the per-race declaration/inspection checks above — is laid out in the Entry Process Flow Chart.
Every Member is bound by the VSCA Sporting Code, which covers league-wide rules (conduct, registration, terminology, penalties) that apply no matter which series you compete in.
2027 SportsCar Championship
The VSCA SportsCar Championship returns for its sixth season in 2027 and will continue to emulate the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as closely as possible. This team endurance series will continue to have the GTP, LMP2, GTD PRO and GTD classes featuring the most popular GTP Prototypes, LMP2 prototypes and GT3 sports cars that iRacing has to offer. The 2027 series schedule features 12 races, 11 championship rounds, 10 championship rounds per class, between January and September 2027. The total grid size will be 58 cars. The series will feature incident-based Full-Course Yellows (FCY) and Organizers are working on ensuring Live Race Stewarding and a VSCA in-house live broadcast for all races.
2027 Entry Registration Dates
Entries the series directors declared eligible from last season, keeping the same class & car number. That car number is only reserved until Changing Entries registration opens below.
Same as above, but changing class and/or car number for the new season
Any approved Team not eligible for one of the early windows above. Once open, this window stays open through the entry fee & design deadline of the season's final race.
Existing Team Managers of entries that competed in the previous season may check Early Registration status in the Paddock.
