In total Teams completed more than eight hours of practice in two sessions on Saturday. The track first opened for all cars in the morning at 10:45 am, similar to the start time for the 12-hour endurance race on March 26th.
Coming off their win in the season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona last month, Lone Wolf Motorsports and their No. 747 Dallara P217 topped the leaderboard in the morning session with a fastest lap of 1:46.334, edging out the No. 47 Iconic Motorsports machine for first place.
In GT3 class, the morning session saw the No. 90 Sim Racing Grid Phoenix BMW M4 GT3 claim first place in the session results with a fastest lap of 2:00.259. No GT3 team broke the 2-minute barrier on the weekend. DRG Racing’s No. 97 Mercedes AMG GT3 was in a close second 0.15 seconds behind.
In the afternoon session that last into the dusk hours in the evening, the No. 10 Dallara P217 of Race4CAT Motorsport set the fastest lap time of the weekend at 1:45.854. Lone Wolf Motorsports and World of Simracing Team and their No. 51 Dallara P217 were second and third, respectively.
„We have a lot left to do. But we are happy to see that we can be competitive again.“, said Alex Rourera of Race4CAT Motorsport.
„But it’s difficult to draw some real conclusions already, because there were a lot of teams missing this weekend and we do not know know the exact conditions we’ll have end of March. The track felt good, but we noticed a bit of a lack of grip in the front. We'll see how to fix that; we will keep working.“, Rourera added.
In GT3, Kinetic Racing’s No. 67 Posche set the fastest lap of the weekend at 2:00.226, about a tenth of a second faster than the fastest GT3 lap set by Sim Racing Grid in the morning session. A secondary Flex Motorsports Ferrari with the car number „321B“ was second-fastest and Torque Freak Racing rounded out the top-three as temperatures dropped significantly once the sun had set.
„This test was pretty important to us. We’ve got a ton of data that we’ll take back to the shop now, to work on getting ready for the race in three weeks. We feel like we have a pretty good setup but will look to do some more fine tuning by then, to hopefully close the gap to those top teams.“, said Fischer Motorsport driver Jason Birnie.
The 12 Hours of Sebring, Round 2 of the 2022 VSCA SportsCar Championship takes place on Saturday, March 26th at 14:00 GMT.
