After getting off to a very successful season start in the VSCA SportsCar Championship at Daytona, when FR13DA Sports Group saw its lone entry, the No. 13 Porsche 911 GT3 R take second place in GT3 class, the team is now ready to take on new challenges in the series’ top-tier class of competition.
In the 12 Hours of Sebring, FR13DA Sports Group will enter a brand-new No. 2 Dallara P217 prototype, expanding its lineup of entries in the series to two.
“We have planned since October of last year, to enter a prototype in the P2 class at some point in 2022, with the goal to prepare to battle for the overall championship in 2023, hopefully.”, team manager Tom Keitemeyer said.
“When we had to withdraw the #911 Porsche shortly before Daytona, this allowed us to free up some resources for the P2 prototype program and now we’re here, getting things ready for the team’s first start.”, Keitemeyer added.
Australian team driver Jayden Dixon has shown that the team’s new prototype is already capable of impressive race pace in Sebring testing and Saturday’s Free Practice 1 where he set the fifth fastest lap time at 1:46.718, only .368 seconds behind the session leaders.
On the question, who will pilot the Dallara P217 at Sebring and beyond, Keitemeyer explained: “It will be Fabian Boller and Sven Brötz sharing the car for the full 2022 season. At Sebring, Sven is unfortunately unavailable, so Darrian Roy steps in for this race and Jayden will go back to running with the guys in the No. 13 Porsche in GT3.”
Roy had become a free agent and was looking for a team after his previous team, Genesis Simsport, suddenly announced on Tuesday, they will no longer compete in VSCA after disagreeing with the sanctioning body's disqualification of their two Prototype teams at Daytona, due to running incorrect car numbers.
For FR13DA Sport Group and their No. 2 Dallara P217 meanwhile one thing will be for certain: Featuring a rather eye-catching “Erlkönig” (development/test mule camouflage) livery, fans and competitors alike will be hardly able to miss the team’s new entry at Sebring.
The 12 Hours of Sebring will take the green flag on Saturday, March 26th at 14:00 GMT.
