In total 21 GT3 class cars posted a lap time in Saturday’s session at Sebring International Raceway. The fastest lap of the day was set by TR Motorsports’ No. 35 Lamborghini Hurcán GT3 Evo and British driver Dylan Pratt at 1:59.023.
Sim Racing Grid, a team that is fielding a total of three cars in the VSCA SportsCar Championship – one P2 Prototype and two BMW M4 GT3 in the GT3 class – posted the slowest and second-to-slowest GT3 lap times in the session at 2:02.132 and 2:02.228, respectively, making for a total margin to the leaders of 3.1 and 3.2 seconds, respectively.
Team manager David Johansson wasn’t happy and voiced his frustration after the conclusion of the session.
“Obviously, we are not usually this much off pace.”
“The BMWs are so much slower since the updated GT3 regulations. The traction in the slow corners is even worse now on the BMW. It’s almost impossible to get the power down in the slow corners.”
In their quest to find all the possible speed in the car, Sim Racing Grid’s two BMW M4 GT3 completed a total of 39 laps in the session with Johansson and Rienko Schaleven behind the wheel.
Two other BMW M4 GT3, the No. 27 from Twenty7 Motorsport and No. 78 from Champion Motorsports, set the third and fifth-fastest lap time in the session, within four tenths of a second to the leaders.
The 12 Hours of Sebring is scheduled to start Saturday at 14:00 GMT. Teams will have the opportunity to continue log practice laps and work on setups in Free Practice 2 on Thursday and Free Practice 3 on Friday.
