A three-way tie for the P2 Prototype points lead of the VSCA Sprint Cup is what we are left with after some fantastic racing at Mid-Ohio. Given that we have completed exactly half of the races so far in this in-series sprint race championship, it leaves some talking points as to the favorites most likely to walk away with the Sprint Cup title at the conclusion of the season.

The three teams in question are: The No. 10 Race4CAT Motorsport, No. 79 Champion Motorsports and the No. 43 Torque Freak Racing Dallara P217, respectively.

Both, the No. 79 and the No. 10 Dallara teams have finished the first two Sprint Cup races in the top five, with the No. 10 Dallara car having a fourth and a third-place finish to their name and the No. 79 team having a fifth and a second-place finish, respectively.

However, in contrary to that, the No. 43 Dallara of Torque Freak Racing has just won the race at Mid-Ohio, giving that team enormous momentum. Additionally, they finished in eighth place at Laguna Seca, making the top ten finish their worst result in the two sprint races so far.

Laguna Seca was certainly the most topsy-turvy race of the season with multiple penalties being dished out post-race, although the No. 10 and No. 79 crossed the line in first and second respectively, they both suffered from penalties, demoting them down by three positions each.

The No. 747 Lone Wolf Motorsports car had a decent showing at Laguna Seca, but a dismal race at Mid-Ohio, meaning that they sit 100 points behind the championship leaders.

Speaking with a few of the drivers on the grid, they all agreed that the No. 747 is one of the fastest cars in the field and therefore a comeback might be on if they can sort out their consistency issues on these shorter races.

As is the nature of any racing driver, the drivers of these favorites are confident in their abilities to race, compete and win. The fight is on, with two races remaining in the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Road America, after this month's 6 Hours of the Glen.
