After winning the season opener at Daytona, the No. 76 Porsche owned by NReSports seems to have struggled to return to form.

The low point came in the 12 Hours of Sebring, when the car was disqualified due to a driver registration mishap and scored zero points, followed by disappointing 25th-place run at Laguna Seca in April.

Things looked promising at Mid-Ohio early on, before the team ultimately found demise again after a crash to end up 25th.

Prior to the 6 Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen, VSCAracing.com caught up with team manager Stefan Waschow and driver Michael Niemas to get their thoughts on the team’s performances so far this season.

“Daytona was very important for our team and the result of good preparation and also a little bit of luck. Everybody was following a race guideline and the result was the victory we are proud of.”, said Waschow.

The moment of victory: The No. 76 NReSports Porsche takes the checkered flag in January's 24 Hours of Daytona

“The last races we had to deal with a few unexpected situations, which took us out of the game. Completely bonkers, but that's racing! Our Watkins Glen preparations went quite good and we already have a strategy through the race.”, Warschow added.

However, a troubling trend continues for the No. 76 Porsche team as again, their race at Watkins Glen did not go to plan.

The team earned its best result since Daytona – a 14th-place finish - but still ended up finishing four laps down on race winners Torque Freak Racing.

With three races remaining on the season, the NReSports No. 76 Porsche sits 19th in the GT3 championship, 960 points out of the lead.

One cause for the team’s struggles throughout the season has been the fact the Porsche 911 GT3 R has received many handling tweaks from Porsche - something which the team tried to adjust to.

“The handling change was affecting us a lot, as our efficient setups didn't match the required speed anymore. We worked hard on it and we spent a lot of time in the cockpit of our Porsche”, explained Niemas.

For NReSports this creates a bit of a paradox, as Porsche has won the last three races in GT3 at Leguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen since the handling update.

The team is now looking forward to the next round of the VSCA SportsCar Championship and a return of the Sprint Cup as the series ventures north of the border for the first time, to the legendary Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in the Toronto Area.

The Canadian Sports Car Challenge will take place on Saturday, July 9th at 16:00 GMT / 12:00 pm local time.
