Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, more commonly referred to by its previous name – “Mosport” - opened in 1961 and cost just over half a million Canadian dollars to construct, about 4.6 million in today’s money.

The 2.55 mile (4.10 km) long circuit is located in Bowmanville, Ontario, approximately one and a half hours outside of the provincial capital, Toronto.

When opened, it was the second purpose-built racing circuit in Canada. The track has remained largely unchanged since its construction, having only been widened and the old hairpin of turn five being made into two distinct corners.

The track has hosted many notable series, the venue was utilized for the FIA Formula One World Championship Canadian Grand Prix on 14 occasions in the 60s and 70s.

Can-Am, GT World Challenge America, Indycar, and NASCAR are also amongst the list of series that have visited CTMP.

The all-time track record stands at a blistering 1:04.0 set in 2008 by Rinaldo Capello in an Audi R10 TDI during qualifying for the Grand Prix of Mosport that year in that round of the American LeMans Series (Now IMSA).

The VSCA Endurance Championship drivers will not be able to beat that time but are expected to break into the low 1:06s in qualifying trim.

This is the first time that the Championship travels north of one of the largest land borders in the world, and, naturally, many drivers are excited about the challenge this unique track represents.

Several Canadians will be part of the grid as well, including Darrian Roy, David Leman, Jay Van Meppelen and Robert Cancian. So, fans will have plenty of local heroes to cheer for in Saturday’s VSCA Canadian Sports Car Challenge.

After their win at Watkins Glen, Element SimRacing and the No. 7 Dallara have taken over the championship lead and will look to take their next step towards taking control of the VSCA SportsCar Championship in the P2 Prototype class.

Lone Wolf Motorsports’ No. 747 Dallara, who had been leading the P2 Prototype championship standings ever since winning the season-opener at Daytona, will look to reverse things and get back on top with a strong performance at CTMP.

Torque Freak Racing sits in third in the P2 Prototype standings, 250 points back, but will hope to close the gap at CTMP, if the top two falter or make mistakes.

In the GT3 championship, Torque Freak Racing’s No. 6 Porsche strongholds the competition after an incredible three-race winning streak. The question looms, if they will be able to pull away for good at CTMP or if the competition – primarily Kinetic Racing’s No. 67 Porsche who sit second in points – will take one of their final opportunities to reel in the points leaders, as the championship starts to wind down.

FR13DA Sports Meguiars No. 13 Porsche has shown to be one of the fastest cars in GT3 on track all year long, but the German team is running out of time to get close enough in the championship battle before the season finale in October, sitting third in the standings, 430 points back.

The 2-hour-40-minute race at CTMP also marks the next round in the VSCA Sprint Cup, with only one more Sprint Cup event following after that in August at Road America.

In the P2 Prototype class three teams are currently tied for the points lead in the VSCA Sprint Cup: The No. 10 Race4CAT Motorsport Dallara, No. 79 Champion Motorsports Dallara and Torque Freak Racing’s No. 43 Dallara P217, with all the team drivers motivated to the max to take control as the championship enters crunch time.

When asked about the points battle situation, Champion Motorsports driver Thomas Fisher said:

“It’s not been easy for us. We are where we want to be. We want to fight. We have learned some things the hard way but at the end of the day, in this business, we don’t get better if we don’t make mistakes and if we are lucky enough to survive those mistakes, then we might just be alright out there. So let’s get this done!”

The Sprint Cup points battle for GT3 looks exciting as well, with Torque Freak Racing’s No. 6 Porsche having two wins to their credit and the points lead and Kinetic Racing’s No. 67 Porsche right behind in second, 60 points back and the No. 94 Lamborghini of FASTR eSports in third, 130 points back.

Many numbers, statistics, lap times, favorites and underdogs are the topic of discussions going into this event. But ultimately, as is always the case, all the teams and drivers will have to lay it all out on the racetrack come Saturday.

Apex Racing TV will broadcast the VSCA Canadian Sports Car Challenge live, flag to flag, on YouTube at 16:00 GMT / 12 pm noon ET.
