In a dramatic race, Fischer Motorsport comes out on top to claim P2 Prototype and overall victory in the Canadian Sports Car Challenge on Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Kinetic Racing and the No. 67 Porsche team finally broke through to take their maiden GT3 class victory in the VSCA SportsCar Championship, following three consecutive second-place finishes.
The race was once again filled with drama, spectacular wrecks and some hot temper flares, but still only saw a record-low one full-course yellow.
Champion Motorsports' No. 79 Dallara looked like the surefire race winners late in the race, before a couple of incidents took out the team of contention.
Championship contenders Lone Wolf Motorsports and the No. 747 Dallara wanted to attack in Saturday's 2-hour-40-minute race in "Mosport", after losing the championship lead after Watkins Glen last month, when Element SimRacing and the No. 7 Dallara took victory.
But a huge pileup in turn two, a mere eight laps into the race, collected innocent bystanders Lone Wolf Motorsports and took them out before the race really ever got started.
Element SimRacing took full control of the field and a huge lead early on, looking like their second consecutive win was all but inevitable. But after the first round of pit stops the No. Dallara fell back to seventh place, before a crash later on forced the team for extensive repairs, dropping them two laps down from the leaders. The No. 7 Dallara wound up eighth in the end, in an effort to perform damage control in a series championship battle that enters crunch time with only two races left.
Fischer Motorsport's Niclas Pedersen, who had just battled back from a tough case of COVID-19 in previous weeks, held off a hard charging No. 51 Dallara from World of SimRacing Team in the closing stages and beat Alvaro Martinez Del Olmo to the start/finish line by an incredible close 0.076 seconds, in a dramatic photo finish. Despite the disappointment of seeing the win slip away, it was the best result yet for the team from Spain.

Still, the second-place finish has solidified the team's championship aspirations as it continues to hold a very stable championship lead heading into the final quarter of the season.
Shamrock SimRacing and the No. 77 Porsche team made it an all-Porsche podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, easily marking the team's best ever result in VSCA. Struggling mightily in the last race at Watkins Glen, it was a huge confidence boost for the racing team from Ireland, proving they belong in the series. The team also won the VSCA GRID Pole award for the race.
With just two championship rounds remaining, the series now takes a short summer break before returning to action at Road America on August 13th, which marks the VSCA Sprint Cup season finale.
