Most teams have elected not to show their hand in Saturday’s Free Practice 1 but still, there was on-track at Road America as the SportsCar Championship heads into its penultimate championship round of 2022.

Lone Wolf Motorsports and their No. 747 Dallara, who have won the 2022 VSCA 24 Hours of Daytona in January and lead the championship standings until Watkins Glen in June, posted the fastest lap time in P2 Prototype class and overall at 1:50.060.

The No. 14 Dallara of Fischer Motorsport USA shows early indications of continuing its upwards trend since winning at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last month and posted the second-fastest lap time of the day at 1:50.640, about a half second behind.

“We had a good feeling right away after unloading the car today. The setup is definitely a good base that we can work with, we just need to fine tune a few things on the handling and long runs. But it feels like we’re quite close to where we want the car to be, which can’t be a bad thing early in the week.”, said Fischer Motorsport driver Niclas Pedersen.

Agee Motorsports’ No. 17 Dallara machine was third fastest at 1:50.896 with Jeroen Hannink completing 20 laps.

The No. 43 machine of Torque Freak Racing was the busiest among all P2 Prototypes and completed 41 laps on the day.

In GT3 newcomers Delta Racing and their No. 4 BMW M4 GT3 stole the headlines on Saturday, opening their series debut with a bang  and posting the fastest lap time of any GT3 car at 2:03.521.

The No. 4 Delta Racing BMW M4 GT3 finished its first official VSCA session in P1

Delta Racing team owner and driver Joáo Vitor Delgado completed all of the team’s 23 laps in the Free Practice 1.

With Delta Racing’s joining the series, Road America will see an entry from Brazil on the grid for the first since Daytona.

Firestorm Motorsport’s No. 29 Audi R8 LMS GT3 with Sean Hatfield and John Jones were a close second-fastest at 2:03.843 while their sister-car No. 30 Audi didn’t get past seventh place on the board.

Fach Auto Tech-Simracing and their No. 396 Porsche 911 GT3 R were the fastest Porsche in the session, albeit with a 1.3 second gap at 2:04.895.

GT3 Championship leaders No. 6 Porsche Torque Freak Racing was fourth-fastest with a fastest lap time of 2:05.106, but faces didn’t look all that concerned in the TFR pit box, knowing that as usual, Saturday’s race will not only be about pace.

Free Practice 2 and Free Practice 3 are set for Thursday and Friday.

The Elkhart Lake Sports Car Challenge at Road America is set to take the green flag on Saturday 16:00 GMT / 12 pm noon ET.
