The Endurance Cup, the in-series championship for the four longest races of the 2022 SportsCar Championship season at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta, ended with Petit Le Mans on Saturday.
Finishing the ten-hour race in second place earned the No. 6 Porsche team of Torque Freak Racing the Endurance Cup championship.
Their closest competition, the FR13DA Sport No. 13 Meguiar’s Porsche won the race after giving race fans an epic battle for the lead through the late stages of the race. The two cars were running on different strategies, keeping things additionally interesting who will prevail. In the end, the German team captured its first ever VSCA victory at Road Atlanta and Torque Freak Racing settled for second.
Endurance Cup points were also awarded at the 4-hour and 8-hour mark during the race. In total, both of the two top contenders scored the same amount of Endurance Cup points during Petit Le Mans, earning Torque Freak Racing the title by a margin of six points and FR13DA Sport settling for second in the championship.
Kinetic Racing’s No. 67 Porsche finished the Endurance Cup championship in third, nine points behind.
Endurance Cup GT3 Champions Torque Freak Racing started off the season with a fourth-place finish in the 24 Hours of Daytona with drivers Neil Middleton, John Goodwin, Jonathan Dance and Don Parkes. The team also led 84 laps in the biggest race of the year.
One round later, in the 12 Hours of Sebring, the team suffered its worst finish of the season crossing the start/finish line in P12.
In June, the No. 6 Porsche team won the 6 Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen, their biggest win of the year.
Entering this Saturday’s season finale, the team maintained a six-point Endurance Cup points lead and held on to take the four-race in-series championship.
In four Endurance Cup starts, the team earned one win, three top-fives and three top-tens. Only one other team, the No. 67 Porsche of Kinetic Racing, earned as many top-five finishes in the four Endurance Cup races this year.
