Kinetic Racing’s No. 67 Porsche 911 GT3 R wins the 2022 VSCA SportsCar Championship by way of a fifth-place finish in the season finale Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
The team’s performance in Saturday’s race capped off an incredible display of consistency throughout the ten-month long season.
It all started with the season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona. The longest race of the year brought its share of issues for the from Louisville, Kentucky.
Twice the No. 67 Porsche suffered from electrical issues. But proving to have the grit needed in endurance racing, the team fought back from three laps down to take third place.
Championship round two, the 12 Hours of Sebring in March brought about the team’s worst result, a P13 finish one lap down from the leaders.
But things improved quickly as in Round 3 at Laguna Seca, drivers Aedan Campbell and Nicholas Sceats took the team’s next podium finish in second place.
The No. 67 Porsche followed that up with another second-place finish at Mid-Ohio in.
At the season’s halfway mark, the team held second place in the championship, only trailing the No. 6 Porsche of Torque Freak Racing by a mere 50 points.
The second half of the season started the same way as the first one ended: With a second-place finish in the 6 Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen.
But in the July race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park the No. 67 Porsche finally reached winner’s circle and captured its first victory of 2022.
The win proved to be a breakthrough as another win followed in the next race at Road America. The second win of the season also meant Kinetic Racing earned the inaugural GT3 Sprint Cup championship.
Going into the season finale Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta the No. 67 Porsche with Aedan Campbell, Vincent L’Herbier and Nicholas Sceats held a 170-point lead in the championship standings.
In a challenging ten-hour race, the trio accomplished their ran a typical quiet race and stayed out of trouble to take a P5 finish, despite a last-lap scare when the spun No. 396 Porsche of FACH Autotech SimRacing blocked the track in the esses.
Over the course of the season, the Kinetic Racing Porsche earned one GRID Pole award, 2 wins, 7 top-fives and 7 top-tens and closed out the season by a margin of 110 points over Torque Freak Racing’s No. 6 Porsche – their closest competitor in the series. In eight races the two teams combined for a record-setting four one-two finishes.
