Anything can happen in racing and sometimes the seemingly obvious is not necessarily that will happen. Case in point: Winning six out of this year’s seven Sprint Cup races, the No. 19 Trading Paints Racing Dallara was regarded the huge favorite to win the 2023 VSCA Sprint Cup at Indianapolis nearly two weeks ago.
But an early crash and a resulting dismal P12 finish opened the opportunity for the competition. And Albrecht Motorsports and the team’s No. 96 Dallara P217 jumped at the golden opportunity, finished fifth in the race and crowned itself 2023 VSCA Sprint Cup champion.
“Winning the 2023 VSCA Sprint Cup means a lot to our team. I’m especially happy for Sven (Sven Albrecht, the team owner).”, said Maik Steinicke.
“Our team has its roots mostly in oval racing. So to get that achievement in road racing is huge for us. I know I’m feeling fantastic about it, personally."
Phillip Blauth, who was also present at Indianapolis and who made his most recent start in the No. 96 Dallara at Road America in August, agreed:
“It’s really great to win the Sprint Cup. Marc and Mike obviously played a much larger role in this achievement. I’m just incredibly grateful, also to Sven, as our fearless team leader. And to the series organizers, of course.”
For Albrecht Motorsports, who are headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany this marks the first-ever championship title in a road racing series. And it comes less than a month after the team celebrated its first-ever race win in VSCA SportsCar Championship competition at Virginia International Raceway.
In seven Sprint Cup races this year, the No. 96 car accomplished one win, six top-five finishes, seven results in the top-ten and an impressive CPI (corners per incident) of 416.14 proving once again that clean racing and staying out of trouble wins championships.
