The 2024 VSCA SportsCar Championship rolls into Watkins Glen, NY, this weekend for the highly anticipated Six Hours of the Glen. As Round 6 of 10 in this season's championship, this race at Watkins Glen International promises to be a pivotal event in the series.

Track Overview

Watkins Glen International, a storied track nestled in the picturesque Finger Lakes region, features 12 turns and spans 3.450 miles (5.552 km). Known for its fast, flowing layout and challenging corners, the track is a favorite among drivers and fans alike.

Race Significance

The Six Hours of the Glen is tied with Miami for the fourth-longest race of the season. Only Daytona (24 hours), Sebring (12 hours), and Road Atlanta (10 hours) are longer. This endurance event will test the limits of both drivers and machines over its six-hour duration.

Defending Champions

Last year's race saw #7 Grizzly Motorsports take the overall and GTP class victory, a crucial win that helped propel them to the 2023 series championship. In the LMP2 class, #19 Trading Paints, driven by Jordan Erickson and Selena Ward, emerged victorious. The #151 World Of SimRacing Team BMW triumphed in the GTD class.

Championship Standings

In the GTP class, #3 Mayer Simspeed Performance Porsche leads the championship by 104 points over #111 HAC Racing Cadillac and by 239 points over #51 World Of SimRacing Team Cadillac. In GT PRO, #44 and #84 Fischer Motorsport Porsche teams are locked in a close battle, separated by only 50 points, with #67 Kinetic Racing Porsche trailing by 73 points. Kinetic Racing, buoyed by their recent win, enters the race with significant momentum.

The GT AM class has seen #93 Digital Chicane Ferrari break the dominance of #5 Screeching Moose Motorsports, who had won six races in a row, including The Roar Before The 24 in January. Digital Chicane’s victory at COTA was a significant milestone, placing them second in the championship, 285 points behind the leaders.

Key Storylines

Last year's event featured four FCYs, and speculation is rife about whether we will see more or fewer this year. The race's flow and strategy could be significantly impacted by these interruptions.

The forecast predicts perfect weather, with no rain and track temperatures possibly exceeding 50°C. These high temperatures will present an additional challenge, testing tire management and vehicle cooling systems.

Texas Speed Sim Racing has withdrawn their entries for the rest of the season, including their #30 Dallara P217 in LMP2 and #32 BMW M4 GT3 in GT PRO. Conversely, Delta Racing returns with their #12 BMW, making their first start of the season at Watkins Glen.

This race marks Round 3 of 5 in the VSCA Endurance Cup, with points awarded at the 3-hour and 6-hour marks. With only two more Endurance Cup races remaining, this weekend could set the stage for the eventual champions.

Broadcast Information

The grid for the Six Hours of the Glen is expected to feature 52 cars, promising a packed and competitive field. Fans can catch all the action live on GreenFlagTV, with coverage starting at 15:50 GMT on Saturday.

As teams prepare for what promises to be a grueling yet exhilarating race, the Six Hours of the Glen is set to deliver high drama and intense competition, further shaping the battle for the 2024 VSCA SportsCar Championship.
