Series veterans, the No. 84 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Fischer Motorsport finally celebrated their first-ever VSCA SportsCar Championship victory at VIR on Saturday, taking the checkered flag by a margin of over 8 seconds in the Sports Car Challenge at VIR.
For drivers Manuel Mayer and Niklas Solle, who substituted for series regular Jay Van Meppelen who missed the event due to a scheduling conflict, it was also the first-ever career victory in the series.
Leading a race-high 52 laps, the No. 84 Porsche held off a hard charge from the No. 78 BMW of Champion Motorsports and Marc Johnson and Marc Nistor, who took second place, leading three laps as well.
The No. 111 Lamborghini of HAC Racing with Christophe Demay and Matthew Routon took third place, placing three different manufacturers on the podium.
Championship leaders No. 5 Mercedes AMG GT3 of Screeching Moose Motorsports with drivers Lukas Santos and Anthony Bill took P4, 24 points back, followed by the no. 29 Porsche of Firestorm Motorsport who ran a three-driver lineup in the 2-hour-40-minute race with Sean Hatfield, Erik Haag and Erol Ureksoy.
Two-time race winner No. 393 Mercedes AMG GT3 of MAD Sim Racing with Patrick Fogel and Daniel Keane finished sixth, while the other two-time race winner No. 151 BMW of World Of SimRacing Team took seventh place with Victor Garrido and Adrian Subiela behind the steering wheel.
Tyler Tucker and Patrick Lindsey were probably hoping for a better race result, than finishing two laps down from the leaders, but were still able to achieve damage control, placing their No. 119 Trading Paints Racing Lamborghini on a respectable P8 finish in the official results chart.
Three-time race winners this season, the No. 67 Porsche of Kinetic Racing continues to recapture its early-season magic. Nicholas Sceats and Aedan Campbell finished in ninth place.
Real Pixel Motorsport and their No. 312 BMW M4 GT3 with Wolfgang Wildenauer and Ronald Gross rounded out the top-ten.
With only two races remaining in the 2023 season, the No. 5 Mercedes of Screeching Moose Motorsports continues to lead the points table by a margin of 84 points of VIR runners-up No. 78 BMW of Champion Motorsports.
Behind the top two, a significant gap opens up with Torque Freak Racing’s No. 6 Lamborghini trailing by 293 points and MAD SimRacing’s No. 393 Mercedes further back at a deficit of 311 points.
The next championship round will take place at Indianapolis on September 23rd.
