Consistency wins championships. If anybody ever needed proof that this is not merely a phrase but really works in racing, they may want to look at the No. 78 BMW M4 GT3 of Champion Motorsports and their 2023 season in the VSCA Sprint Cup.
Other teams may have won more races this year - the No. 78 car did not reach victory lane - but garnering five top-five finishes in seven Sprint Cup starts, with no finish worse than 13th, the team out of Texas showed that consistency wins championships.
To very little surprise, the No. 78 BMW team also has a very good clean racing record on the season with an average race CPI (corners per incident) of 485.8.
After the team’s LMP2 entry won last year’s Endurance Cup, this is already the second title in VSCA competition for the organization.
For team David Anderson, owner of CMSracing.com and team manager, there is no routine in winning another championship and this one still means as much as the first one:
“It’s so great (to win the Sprint Cup title). I am so proud of Marc Johnson, Brett Stephens and Marc Nistor. They have been the staple of our Endurance Racing efforts for Champion Motorsports for some time now, and to see them take this accomplishment is so rewarding and nice.”
“They came close last year, but to put it over the top this year to win the Sprint Cup championship is surreal.”
With Petit Le Mans coming up this weekend, setting up a huge finale to the overall SportsCar Championship 2023 season, Anderson and his team already focus on what’s ahead.
“We are not letting up (laughing). We’re going into Road Atlanta with a shot at the overall Championship for our BMW M4 team. I know the guys are extremely motivated and are putting in a lot of hours in the simulator.”
Still, winning the 2023 VSCA Sprint Cup already makes this year another successful one for Champion Motorsports.
“Yeah, we took a moment to enjoy this one. It’s not every day you win a championship. I also want to say thanks to all the teams, competitors, and staff at VSCA for another fun season.”, Anderson closed out his comments.
